Google Search Script Adapted from script at
http://javascript.internet.com/
Scripts Like this and More!

This page was produced for WebTv
using as many fingers
and as much Javascript as possible,
For My Friends, at Club Optimod
Inspired by Zarrah's Post
Pointing out that the "Google Options"
weren't loading correctly for WebTv.

Just One Word in the Title: of a page.
Google restricts it's results to pages containing this word
in the title.
For example, Typing madonna will return links to those pages
that have the word "madonna" anywhere in their title.
Enter search query
Then use the "(1 Word) In Title" selection.

Multiple Words In The Title
If your query contains multiple words for a page's title,
i.e. george w. bush nuts
or i.e. George Washinton Carver Peanuts

or i.e. Richard Nixon Watergate

Type in query THEN use the "Multiple Words In Title" selection.

Note: Caps don't seem to matter. Spaces OK.

Who Links You or Who Links Whom?
Find pages that point to a specific URL.
Type in your own page address or someone else's.
Note: For domain names just type the name i.e. googles.com
Then use the "Who Links Whom" selection.

Top of the Tips     Back to the Top

These are the parameters you can use:

  • FirstName(or first initial) LastName City (state is optional)
e.g. George Bush Camp David or G Bush Washington DC
    (These Examples don't return results,
dang I wanted to call him about something!)
  • FirstName(or First_initial) LastName State
  • FirstName(or First_initial) LastName AreaCode
  • FirstName(or First_initial) LastName ZipCode
  • PhoneNumber AreaCode
  • LastName City State
  • LastName ZipCode

Note: The Spaces above. It seems you can just
use spaces (no commas) for searches now.
I've typed them here as they worked for me.

UPDATE:! Interesting note is I finally found myself,
(not literally)
my Name, Phone, City, State
(no address) finally turned up,
When I searched what is on my caller ID.
Even tho I am published under my real name!

"I'm Feeling Lucky"

This is Google's Explanation from
their help page.
The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button takes you
directly to the first web page
Google returned for your query.
You will not see the other search results at all.

An "I'm Feeling Lucky" search means you
spend less time searching for pages
and more time looking at them.

For example, to find the homepage for Stanford University,
simply enter Stanford into the search field
and click "I'm Feeling Lucky" You Go directly to "www.stanford.edu",
the official homepage of Stanford University.

Search a Particular Web page for something.
(*WebSite Search)
The Search Results will be
ONLY from the web site you type.

i.e. type in enquirer.com madonna
or
i.e type in bugland.us audio

Note: Use a space between the
desired web site name and your query.

Then select the *WebSite Search.

"In The Text"
Searches for a name or text on the entire web,

i.e. Enter your own nickname, a name or a word/phrase,
Choose "In Text" search option & search entire web.

This search is very similar to the Web Site Search
except this search ignores links, URLs and page titles.

One or More Words In a URL
This searches for a Single Word
(Enter query & Use "One Word In URL")

Or Mutliple words in a URL
(Enter query & Use "Multiple Words In URL")
(URL= Page Address)
If you type in one word
i.e. lyrics (then choose "One Word In URL")
Results are restricted to those pages
that have the word "lyrics" in their URL page address.

For a multiple word search in the URL,
Enter the search words seperated by spaces,
(then choose "Multiple Words In URL")
i.e. type in song lyrics
for the list of all URLs
containing both "song" and "lyrics" in them.

Need I point out ?
you can further restrict the search
to one particular web site...
i.e type in mimes.com greetings
(then choose "One Word In URL")

Searching a Particular Filetype
Top of the Tips     Back to the Top
This search will look for particular filetypes
(e.g. txt, doc, pdf or etc.)
i.e. type in pdf form 1040
This didn't return good results
for .mid, .ra etc. Maybe you'll have better luck.
Obviously it helps if you know
exactly what you want.
MsnTv might get some useful returns hunting txt files
i.e. type in txt bug jokes OR txt about bugs.
Or type in txt Patriot Act
(Don't use the "dot" in file extensions)
i.e. type txt search term or doc search term.
not .txt search term or .doc search term.

More Info you don't need?
i.e. type in doc site:gov consumer
Search will look for files with ".doc" extension
in all government domains with ".gov" extension
and containing the word "consumer" either in the pages
or in the ".doc" file.
Confused yet?
i.e. the result will contain the links to all
consumer word document files on the government sites.
